Epicure 3 Day Reset Review + Giveaway!

Hi Friends!!!! I wish I had some spectacular home update for you but I don't, we've been slacking. Instead I am here to share with you a review on the 3 Day Reset from Epicure + a giveaway for one of you awesome readers to try it out! 

I wrote this post getting candid about my thoughts on weight loss. It definitely has been a struggle most of my adult life. When I came across the Epicure website and started browsing I found out they have a 3 Day Reset plan. I've always found juice cleanses & detoxes difficult. I love coffee and could never give that up not even for one day. But the epicure reset plan seemed really do-able. It allowed you to have actual meals during the day with some small healthy snacks. It didn't add in any other restrictions. I'm fully aware that coffee should have been eliminated but since I only drink drip coffee I felt it wasn't necessary to cut it out. For my sanity and my child & husbands safety too. :) 

The reset comes with a pamphlet that provides your grocery shopping list, the prep work, and how to assemble your meals. It also has a menu plan that you use for all 3 days. Yes, you heard me same food for 3 days. At first I wasn't sure how I would feel about this but you have flexibility. You can use chicken or beans in your lunch/dinner plans & the dressings are different for lunch and dinner. The breakfast smoothie was so tasty that I could easily have it every morning. 

After the 3 days I lost 5 lbs! Pretty amazing considering after I calculated all of the calories for the day I realized I wasn't eating much less then my normal day to day. What it made me realize is I was eating a ton of crap foods at the wrong times. I'm going to share my pro's & con's below. 

PRO's of the Reset Plan: The biggest pro was noticing that I was snacking way too much between breakfast and lunch. My day typically starts at 6 am, I would have a bowl of cereal & coffee. Then at 9 am I would feel hungry again and eat another breakfast type food. Probably around 11 am I would dig for a small snack or hold off till 12 pm and have lunch. BAD BAD BAD.....why am I eating so much food! After the reset I realized that I was clearly not eating good foods that should be filling me up. Too many carb filled foods like cereal and toast. This was a huge wake up call for me! I am in the process of ordering the protein powder that was provided and will keep up with the same smoothie routine. The second PRO was how amazing the protein tasted. I've tried a dozen protein powders and never satisfied with the taste it would leave. Especially the vegan ones! The vegan coconut protein powder so good and the coconut taste was not over bearing. Lastly the reset was very easy especially if you prepped your food as advised. 

CON's: I couldn't cut out coffee & with that I can't have coffee until I eat something in the morning. Each morning I had one Lara bar bite with my coffee. Lara Bars are very clean with minimal ingredients so I didn't feel like I was completely cheating. I also had one bite in the evening after dinner with my coffee again. The second con was the dinner dressing was not my favorite. I am not a fan of tomatoes and a main part of the dressing was tomato juice. That's it. 

Lastly, I urge you to browse the website. They have some really interesting other food items like flavored nutritional yeast and pudding. I know those are two very different food groups but I assure you they have a ton of different foods that I think would be appealing to most people.

Valentine's Day Treat with Beet Milk

Helllloooooo Friends! I have a special recipe to share with you all today, it's something you can make for your loved one for breakfast or a fun drink to make with kids! I made some yummy banana bread and an easy strawberry coconut whipped cream to go with the milk. 

I purchased my beets cooked and peeled from Sobey's and used this Almond Milk(made in Canada by the way!) I've tried many different Almond Milk's but this one has the perfect amount of sweetness. 

The beet milk is pretty simple to make all you need is a blender like this from Canadian Tire

Beet Milk Recipe: 

Step 1: Add 3 beets to the blender and chop them up.

Step 2: Slowly add the almond milk, I used 1 1/2 cups. Keep adding the milk until the beets have a smooth consistency.  

Step 3: Add 2 tbsp of maple syrup. You can add another if you find the taste of the beets still too strong. Add 1 tsp vanilla. 

Step 4: Blend all together one more time and beet milk is created! I would recommend storing it in the fridge for an hour. It tastes much better cold. 

I made a basic banana bread using a recipe I found on Pinterest. I cooked it in a cake pan instead of a bread pan and used a heart shape cookie cutter to cut them into hearts. Once cooled I added my strawberry whipped coconut cream. 

Strawberry Whipped Coconut Cream: 

Step 1: Store your canned coconut milk(I bought a mini can) in the fridge over night. Once chilled use a hand blender to whip into a cream. 

Step 2: Once whipped add 1 tbsp of strawberry jam, 1 tbsp maple syrup, 1 tsp of vanilla. Whip again. 

Step 3: Slather on your banana bread! 

You can have a ton of fun with whipped coconut cream by adding which ever jam you love the best!

Life Lately

Nothing to update on the home front so I am going to share a few other things that have been going on around here!

I caught one of my fellow bloggers Julie on Instagram Stories talking about a new product she tried Miracle Overnight cream from Philosophy. She had rave reviews and I've been looking for a good quality under eye cream. I decided to go ahead and purchase the under eye cream for now from Shopper's Drug Mart. I want to try the over night cream as well but both products are a little pricey so I am going to wait a month or so before I buy it.  

While we are on the topic of beauty care how fun is it that Shopper's now carries Pixi Beauty! I bought the mascara which I already love and want to try the Rose Oil. They were sold out so on my next trip too town I am going to check if it's back in stock. 

We finally got our dishwasher! I purchased appliances before Christmas from Best Buy but the dishwasher arrived heavily damaged. Because of the holiday's the one I picked sold out and took a while to be in stock again. Let me tell you, if you are in the market for a quiet dishwasher this one from Kitchen Aid is amazing!!! Our kitchen, dining, and living room are all open space so I needed one with minimal noise. It washes great too! I will do a full review soon on all of my appliances that I purchased from Kitchen Aid. 

Question for you all....how often do you sit down with your spouse and talk life plans? Branko and I talk about life plans A LOT. In the last two weeks we have come to a big life decision that I may share in the future here.

Candid thoughts about weight loss

Well here goes nothing, I'm going to share with the online world how weight loss has been the largest struggle for me most of my adult life. Many ups and downs. Good eating, bad eating. Long weeks of consistent exercise and then many excuses as to why I can't fit in an exercise routine. I wouldn't say I am embarrassed of my weight nor am I excessively over weight. I would like to lose 25-30 lbs. 

20 LBS - this number sounds so small in my head. Have you ever watched biggest loser? They lose that weight in one week! Don't worry I get that this is not reasonable. 

The good news for me is I have proven I can lose weight and successfully keep it off. Last year, from Jan - July I was exercising regularly and eating well. I managed to lose a little over 15 lbs and keep most of that weight off. Then things changed, life became busier and excuses were made so that my daily work out could be cancelled. 

My main plan is to get back to my 45 minute elliptical routine which has shown great results for myself. Along with that, I need to track my daily intake of food by using My Fitness Pal. I'm sure you have all heard of that wonderful app. 

I suppose your next thought is what will I do to stay accountable and this is where all of you come into play! I am going to start an online community along with my good friend Thalita you can catch her post about her own weight loss struggles here to help encourage me on this journey. A private Facebook group will be created where we can chat about healthy foods we've tried, sharing your exercise routine of the day, your ups and downs, your favorite apps, product reviews (especially those expensive protein powders!) and what has worked for you in regards to your eating times of the day. Anything goes! I am going to share my thoughts on Instagram as well but I would love if you left your thoughts about this in the comments. My goal is to be back in my exercise routine by Feb.1.
